History

Torre Alfina takes place at the north of Lazio, between Alfina plain and the river Paglia. The village has medieval origins as the castle and the house position show. At the beginning the village was formed by a single observation tower that allowed the control of a large part of surrounding areas. The rich family of Monaldeschi owned the castle and territories from 13th century to 17th century. In 1533 the whole property was inherited by Sforza Cervara which converted the tower in a sixteenth-century castle, with sculptures, pictures and ornaments still visibles. Lather the castle was inherited by Bourbon del Monte and it lived a difficult period; in 1880 it was bought by Edoardo Cahen which become "marchese" for this reason. Cahen converted the wood under the castle in a fantastic park known as "Sasseto". Inside this park there is the tomb of Edoardo, a gothic mausoleum.Teofilo Rodolfo, Edoardo's son, enriched the castle with a large number of works of art and elegant foniture that are missing today.
